The Hunger Games: First Teaser Trailer

"May the odds be ever in your favor." Lionsgate has released the first teaser trailer for the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games.

The promotional machine behind the live-action adaptation of the first chapter in Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel series, The Hunger Games trilogy continues at the MTV Music Awards. We have earlier seen the nifty teaser motion poster, featuring Katniss' signature mockingjay pin burning. Now watch the first ever footage from the upcoming film adaptation of the wildly popular young-adult science fiction adventure novel series.

The first film in the planned trilogy stars Jennifer Lawrence (last seen in X-Men: First Class as Mystique) as Katniss Everdeen, the 16-year-old protagonist chosen in a survival battle to the death in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Fighting against other children chosen from each of the country's 12 districts, it is a fight to the end where the only survivor is the winner.

The teaser trailer is strictly that, a teaser. Featuring Jennifer Lawrence (last seen in X-Men: First Class as Mystique) as Katniss Everdeen, the 16-year-old protagonist running through the forest and shooting an arrow before showing you the logo of the film, the teaser trailer probably wouldn't make much impression for the folks unfamiliar with the source material except that it's likely an action adventure film featuring a young girl as the lead. What would have promote the film in a more efficient way would be to have the casual folks to have a sense of the "Battle Royale"-esque mixed a young adult sci-fi. That said, we are still at an early stage of the promotion.

For those who missed out our earlier preview, here's the official synopsis of the film:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

THE HUNGER GAMES will be directed by Gary Ross, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Collins’ best-selling novel, which has over 3 million copies in print in the United States alone, is the first in a trilogy of novels which have developed a global following.

Also starring Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, and Donald Sutherland, The Hunger Games is set to be released on March 23rd, 2012.
