TERA Online: Trailer - Gamescom 2011

Check out the rip-roaring action-packed trailer of Bluehole Studio's TERA Online.

For the uninformed, The Exiled Realm of Arborea, better known as TERA Online, is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) that was released in South Korea earlier this year. While the release date of the Korean import in North America and Europe is as yet undetermined, the title has made its presence felt at the recently ended Gamescom with a cool new action-packed trailer.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, followed by the official synopsis of the MMO.

Check out the somewhat psychedelic premise of the MMO from the official synopsis:

The world of TERA began millennia ago when two titans of unimaginable power, Arun and Shara, met in a formless void. For reasons we can only guess, they fell asleep. And as they slept, Tera took shape around them.

If you look at a map of the world today, you can see Arun and Shara—their sleeping bodies became the two continents that bear their names. Centuries passed, and deserts, mountains, rivers, and forests grew upon Arun and Shara. Yet still they slept.

Even for an omnipotent titan, every sleep is a chance to dream. As Arun and Shara slept, their dreams came to life—life in the literal sense. Arun’s and Shara’s dreams coalesced into the first living beings to call TERA home. These first creatures, twelve in all, had godlike power. Yet it wasn’t long before schemes and rivalries emerged and the gods were at each other’s throats.

All the while, Arun and Shara continued to dream, and their new dreams took shapes familiar to the gods. These new creatures—the mortals--were far more numerous, but far less powerful.

Arun dreamed of ambitious elves, clever humans, honorbound amani, powerful giants, scheming devas, and mischievous poporis. Shara dreamed of sly sikandari, dark gulas and vampirs, fierce wendigos, strange faeries, and serpentine nagas.

In time, the twelve gods would go to war—first against each other directly, and then drawing the mortal races into their battles. These divine wars left most of the gods dead, imprisoned, or otherwise diminished.

The mortal races didn’t escape unscathed. Some—like the sikandari, and most of the giants—were wiped out. Others—like the barakas and the castanics—emerged from the conflict itself. And as TERA begins, the humans, high elves, amani, castanics, barakas, and poporis have banded together…

…and together they’ll fight a menace from beyond their world: the Argons, a metallic race from the Underworld. Unless stopped, they’ll destroy Arun and Shara, and then the dream will end for everyone.

Adrift: Teaser Trailer & Art - Gamescom 2011

"Remember you soon." At Gamescom, French-based video game developer Dontnod teased us with their upcoming action-adventure title, Adrift.

Perhaps the most elusive announcement at the recently ended Gamescom, French-based video game developer Dontnod unveiled their project with only a premise and ten concept art pieces. And in peculiar way, the tease rise above and beyond its call of duty and have us completely intrigued.

Here's the premise of the title, directly translated (thanks to our trusty Google Chrome translation tool) from the original French text at Dontnot's official site:

Neo-Paris 2084

Augmented reality and manipulation memorial took control of people's lives.

We can now buy, sell or exchange its own memories. The last barriers of privacy have fallen, in line with the rise of social networking and location-based early XXI th century.

The control society, accepted by the citizens themselves, in exchange for some technological benefits, is now a reality that no longer takes the trouble to challenge.

This economy of memory is not without giving immense power and uncontrollable to a handful of people ...

Feeling a little Philip K. Dick-ish with the deep sci-fi premise? Wait till you check out the announcement trailer consisting of zero animated motion and instead filled with ten concept art pieces of the title.

Now that we got you feeling a heavy dose of the iconic sci-fi classic, Blade Runner, any sci-fi fans would have to agreed that those are some incredible images depicting dystopian cityscapes that existed in our mind when we read the cyberpunk works of the aforementioned Dick and William Gibson. One might argue that at this early stage of the development of the title, we might be overtly haste to come to any judgement but we certainly are impressed by the work here by concept artist Aleksi Briclot and award-winning sci-fi writer Alain Damasio.

In the announcement, we understand that Adrift (working title) will be a third-person action-adventure game currently scheduled to be released some time in 2012 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

In parting, here are all ten of the concept art pieces, readily available from Dontnot's official site.
