Adrift: Teaser Trailer & Art - Gamescom 2011

"Remember you soon." At Gamescom, French-based video game developer Dontnod teased us with their upcoming action-adventure title, Adrift.

Perhaps the most elusive announcement at the recently ended Gamescom, French-based video game developer Dontnod unveiled their project with only a premise and ten concept art pieces. And in peculiar way, the tease rise above and beyond its call of duty and have us completely intrigued.

Here's the premise of the title, directly translated (thanks to our trusty Google Chrome translation tool) from the original French text at Dontnot's official site:

Neo-Paris 2084

Augmented reality and manipulation memorial took control of people's lives.

We can now buy, sell or exchange its own memories. The last barriers of privacy have fallen, in line with the rise of social networking and location-based early XXI th century.

The control society, accepted by the citizens themselves, in exchange for some technological benefits, is now a reality that no longer takes the trouble to challenge.

This economy of memory is not without giving immense power and uncontrollable to a handful of people ...

Feeling a little Philip K. Dick-ish with the deep sci-fi premise? Wait till you check out the announcement trailer consisting of zero animated motion and instead filled with ten concept art pieces of the title.

Now that we got you feeling a heavy dose of the iconic sci-fi classic, Blade Runner, any sci-fi fans would have to agreed that those are some incredible images depicting dystopian cityscapes that existed in our mind when we read the cyberpunk works of the aforementioned Dick and William Gibson. One might argue that at this early stage of the development of the title, we might be overtly haste to come to any judgement but we certainly are impressed by the work here by concept artist Aleksi Briclot and award-winning sci-fi writer Alain Damasio.

In the announcement, we understand that Adrift (working title) will be a third-person action-adventure game currently scheduled to be released some time in 2012 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

In parting, here are all ten of the concept art pieces, readily available from Dontnot's official site.
